BOMAG's EMERGENCY BRAKE ASSIST scans the surroundings of the construction machine in real time. It recognises both stationary and moving obstacles. This allows the localisation of objects and persons that are potentially at risk when the machine is in motion.
The assistance system detects the distance and speed of obstacles using LiDAR technology. However, detecting the steering angle or control lever position and whether the roller is in crab mode are also decisive factors. This information is used to determine whether a hazardous situation exists. If a collision is imminent, the roller is automatically slowed down or comes to a standstill.
If the situation allows, the roller's working speed is only reduced – for example, if a person is already moving out of the vehicle's path and thus away from the potential danger zone. EMERGENCY BRAKE ASSIST also recognises this.
The assistance system is displayed and operated via the touchscreen, which is fitted as standard on pivot-steered BOMAG tandem rollers. EMERGENCY BRAKE ASSIST can be individually adapted to the typical driving style of different roller operators and the construction site situation. Drivers can adjust the braking intensity in three stages at any time.
Even though the driver remains ultimately responsible: BOMAG's EMERGENCY BRAKE ASSIST helps avoid collisions – when site conditions are particularly challenging, when concentration drops after a long workday, when visibility is poor at dusk, and when working at night.
The large pivot-steered BOMAG asphalt rollers can be optionally equipped with EMERGENCY BRAKE ASSIST. The proactive driver assistance system recognises hazardous situations and helps to prevent collisions.
